Travel arrangements should be made as soon a possible to take advantage of lower fares. June 19 is Labour Day, a public holiday in Trinidad and Tobago which may be a busy travel period. Trinidad and Tobago's, main airport, Piarco International Airport is served by a number of airlines, from destinations in the Caribbean, Canada, Central America, South America, Europe and The United States.
The airport is the hub for the national airline of Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean Airlines. Other airlines which provide service to Trinidad and Tobago include Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Copa Airlines, LIAT, REDjet and Surinam Airways. Additionally Condor, Monarch Charter, and Virgin Atlantic provide direct service to A.N.R Robinson International Airport in Tobago.
Local arrangements will be setting up a SALALM welcome desk at the airport to coincide with the major daytime flight arrivals of the participants. Salalmistas can send date and flight arrival details to Elmelinda Lara. We are unable to provide free transport but for those who are willing to share the cost of a vehicle, we can arrange for transport. Individuals will pay the driver.
VisaVisas are not required of citizens of certain countries when they are travelling to Trinidad and Tobago. The list of these countries ca be found here.
Ground TransportationTaxis are readily available at the airport and other tourist locations. Taxis from the airport to the Hilton Trinidad are as follows:
- US$30- US$39 for car to accommodate 2 persons + luggage
- US$77 approx for micro-van to accommodate 8 persons + luggage
- US$95 approx for large bus to accommodate 12 persons + luggage
SALALM LVII will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Trinidad, which is in close proximity to the capital city, Port of Spain. In order to get to the city, some conference participants may wish to take a leisurely stroll from the hotel to the city. If you decide to walk please go in pairs or groups.
TaxisThere are taxis available from the Hilton to take visitors to downtown Port of Spain. These cost US$15.00. Taxis from the Hilton Hotel to the Piarco International Airport cost US$30.00 before 10pm and US$45.00 after 10pm.
Cars with an H plate are for Hire and those with a P plate are for private use and should be avoided.
