Computer Facilities

The Circulation and Access Services (C&AS) Division offers access to Computing Services to all UWI students, Faculty and staff. These services include:

  • Internet resources
  • Specialized databases and electronic journals
  • The online catalogue (OPAC) and exam papers
  • Productivity applications (Microsoft Office; SPSS; Endnote; Ref. Manager)
  • Wireless networking services
  • “24/7” services
  • Printing (black & white; colour)
  • Basic instruction on navigating specialised online resources

All members of The UWI community are authorized to access computing services at The Alma Jordan Library. To obtain access, currently registered Faculty and students from:

  • Cave Hill
  • Mona
  • Hugh Wooding Law School
  • Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business
  • Exchange students (UWI St. Augustine)

must fill out a Computing Services Request Form at the Help Desk and should have in your possession a current UWI ID card.

Non-UWI users (UWI Alumni & External users) must also apply for access.

The Staff at the Circulation and Access Services (C&AS) Division will contact applicants (normally within 24 hours) regarding the outcome of the application.

STARRS (St. Augustine Research & Reference Services) is located at the northern end of The Alma Jordan Library, on the ground floor. It is equipped with 38 computers, 1 black & white printer and 1 colour printer. Users at STARRS can:
  • Access the computers for a maximum of 30 minutes
  • Conduct research
  • Access internet resources
  • Explore The Alma Jordan Library's Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
  • Use basic computer word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation graphics software
  • Access training on database use, catalogue use, citing sources
  • Explore UWIlinC, the library's e-information portal

STARRS can be accessed all night along with the Reading Room when The Alma Jordan Library offers its 24/7 service.
Monday to Friday - 7:15 pm to 5:45 am and Saturday - 2.00 pm - 8.00 pm. Start dates vary each semester.

The UEC (User Education Centre) is located on the southern side of 3rd floor and is solely for research purposes. The laboratory is equipped with 36 computers and 1 black & white and colour printers. Users here can:
  • Access computers for a maximum of 1 hour
  • Access internet resources
  • Access training on database use, catalogue use, citing sources
  • Conduct research
  • Explore UWIlinC, the library's e-information portal
  • Use basic computer word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation graphics software
  • Accessing the Library's Computing Services
  • Making Reservations to use the computers on PHAROS
  • Printing
