WIPO Conversation 10
The 10th session of WIPO Conversation "Generative AI: IP and Output" takes place on November 5 and 6, 2024.
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has gained more than 200 million active users. Many of us use AI to help us with daily task, writing text, coding, generating pictures and videos. AI is being used as a research tool identifying novel molecules and drug candidates. And many enterprises around the world are seeking to find new solutions using AI to address some of the most pressing issues from health to agriculture and more.
AI works have won art competitions ahead of human artists. At the same time many creators are embracing AI as a powerful tool to enhance their creative processes and discover brand-new market opportunities.
As AI advances and integrates into creative sectors by becoming more adept at generating articles, images, songs and more, there is a lively debate whether AI represents a threat to human creators or whether it will become an extremely powerful tool spurring on human creativity.
Some of the IP questions that remain unsolved include:
- Should AI-generated outputs benefit from copyright protection?
- Do AI-generated outputs infringe copyright in works contained in the input training data?
- How should IP respond to AI generated deepfakes and digital replicas?
