Thesis Checking
The Library's scrutiny of theses is intended to ensure that students comply with the requirements of the University's Thesis Guide (2015 ed.) in relation to format, arrangement, abstract, references, etc. The Library certifies a thesis as acceptable when it is satisfied that the thesis complies with the requirements formatting and referencing guidelines of the UWI Thesis Guide and the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, APA style manual.
The formatting guidelines in the UWI Thesis Guide overrides those of the APA style format, but referencing guidelines must conform to APA. See the SoE Librarians’ APA 7th LibGuide and handouts.
- APA Style by the American Psychological Association is the referencing style which the UWI thesis guide (p. 22) states should be used by students in the School of Education (SoE), Faculty of Humanities and Education, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.
- All new students (2020-2021 onwards) are to use APA 7th.
- Current graduate students who are submitting theses this year (2021-2022) may continue in APA 6th (unless the student wishes to do so in APA 7th). By 2022-2023 - only APA 7th should be used.
For additional information and guidance throughout the process, please contact the SoE Librarian, Dr Shamin Renwick.
When a student's thesis/dissertation has been approved by The University, you are to submit copies at the Alma Jordon Library Bindery at a cost. [During COVID-19 campus closure, only e-copies are being submitted].
